Functional Capacity Evaluation

HealthWorks can help determine if you are physically ready to go back to work with a Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE), a scientifically developed, objective process to measure a worker’s physical capabilities and tolerances, also known as a worker’s physical demand level (PDL).
Benefit of having an FCE

1. Determine the level of participation and activity that is right for the patient, providing the highest probability of return to work without re-injury
2. Answer legally defensible case resolution-relevant questions for referral sources
3. Practice hierarchy of safety, reliability, validity, practicality and utility
4. Use standardized protocols to objectively define an individual’s safe and functional levels for return to work and case closure
5. Are peer-reviewed, validity-based and legally defensible in the field of occupational rehabilitation
6. Provide clear, concise, timely reports specific to an individual’s physical capabilities

Functional Capacity Evaluations are a three to five hour evaluation designed to help determine a person’s ability to safely function in their typical work environment. It evaluates strength, flexibility and capacity to perform work tasks, such as lifting, carrying, kneeling and squatting, etc. In this way the client and industrial rehabilitation team can determine an individual’s current capabilities and develop a treatment plan to promote safe return to work.
